Niterider Minewt 600

Summer Is Finally Here! It is time to get for those long evening rides. This is one of my favorite things to do. I love getting off from a long day at work and jumping on my mountain bike and taking a few hour ride. The problem that I run into is living in the desert of southern utah I have to wait until 7 or 8 to leave just because of the heat. So riding after hours is a necessity. So I got the Niterider Minewt 600 Here is the specs on this pretty sweet bike light.

The new Minewt 600 cordless puts out an amazing 600 lumens in a one-piece package with no separate battery pack or cables! Thats freaking amazing. Niterider Minewt 600  is pushing LED technology to a new level. Recharges easily with the included 5.5hr Smart Charger (or plug into to a USB port and charge at your desk!)

Its the first one-piece light that is truly trail capable and overkill for city streets. Plus, Niterider uses reflectors and lenses specifically designed for bicycle riding, so you get a superior beam pattern compared to other systems using “off the shelf” optics.

  • Tool-free quick-release handlebar mount
  • Also includes helmet mount
  • Features premium CREE LEDs
  • only 190 grams

RUNTIME
This light features 4 light level options, plus a flash mode:

  • 1:30 hours on High (600 lumen)
  • 3:00 hours on Medium (400 lumen)
  • 4:30 hours on Low (275 lumen)
  • 10:00 hours on walking “flashlight” mode (100 lumen) – ideal for use around campsite, changing a flat, etc.

A typical car headlight is 700 lumen, so you pretty much have a car headlight sitting on the front of your bike. Pretty cool hu? One of the greatest features is that it is cordless. This means that you can use it for other things.

Jared Graves, Eliot Jackson and Richie Rude hit up South Africa for the first World Cup of the season. Graves makes a strong, full-time return to the downhill circuit after years of dominating 4X.

He missed the podium by less than half a second.

Nice showing guys for your first event of the year.

It will be exciting to watch them for the rest of the season.

Kona Tanuki 2012 Bike Review

This is my bike review for the Kona Tanuki 2012 Bike.

Have you been a fan of the Tanuki?
Well this year you will not be let down. The latest version The Tanuki 2012 Bike corrected a few issues from the 2011 model and they have enhanced a few other features.
One of the biggest changes was in The rear shock. They have reworked it with a larger oil reserve. It has the appearance of a fox shock, but don’t be revived. This is a custom shock built in-house for this bike.

This is the best all around cross country bike on the market. It has been put to the test from running down some of the toughest toughest slopes of Switzerland to long cross country rides.

kona tanuki 2012

So Take the specs from the 2011 model and just add a new shock design and here ya go.

This shock is called “The Sektor”  It is designed to be the new tough guy in the RockShox fork line-up too. The head tube tapered design increases stiffness. Nine-speed Gears is still the same as last year. It works well for this design.Kona Tanuki  finishing kit is all decent and in the right sizes for all-round trail use.
My Recommendation is for the money and if you are looking for a new all around good bike this bike is a good fit. You can not buy this bike online. Kona has strict rules about this. Find yourself a local dealer.

Run Scotland to the Sahara Desert

I know this isn’t out mountain biking but I felt it was worth writing about. Have you ever rolled out of bed one day and felt like forest gump? You know just felt like starting to run, lets say that you were up in Scotland and just started running south. Like maybe towards the Sarah desert. Well Andrew Has done it, he ran for 78 straight days.

He covered on an average of 34 miles per day. That is a little over 2600 miles total. Pretty amazing if you ask me, he did it to raise money for some group of people that can’t figure out how to get them selves out of the state of poverty. Some where in Mongolia.  Great job Gump, I mean Andrew. We hope you have reached all of your goals. They have put a video slid together to show what this young man went through on is run.

Urban Riding on The Rise

It is a little known fact that there are a lot of different types of Bike Riding. Most people only see those guys riding on the side of the rode in matching stretchy shorts and shirts. Ya know riding their 10 speeds with their clip in shoes and drafting each other to cut down on the wind. Well there are a few other styles that I want to mention.

My favorite is Downhill Mountain Biking

then there is Cross Country Mountain Biking

Then there is Urban Mountain Biking

Each one of the styles uses a different type of bike.

For Downhill we usually have a very beefy bike with full suspension and at least 5 inches of travel front and back.
Example type of bike is a Kona Satori

For Cross Country Mountain Biking they have a fixed rear frame with a front shock that gives you 4 to 6 inches of travel. These bikes are used for guys that like to go UP hill as well as down. These are sometimes called a all mountain bike.
Example type of bike is a Kona Kahuna Deluxe

Then you have the Urban Bikes. These bikes are usually created as a single speed and are a hard tail. Guys love these for their simplicity. They use them to do all types of crazy tricks around town. Like jumping over guard rails and over statues.
Example of a Urban Bike is: Kona Big Unit

So why are they on the rise? Basicly because gas is not cheap and if you live in an urban area it is a lot easier to get around. I know this is not all the types of bikes that are out there. This post is not suppose to be a full list. Just a bit of info to get people thinking about all the types of bikes that are out there.

KEEP RIDING….

Garmin Forerunner 310xt Watch Review

Whats under the hood of the Garmin Forerunner 310xt Watch?

Garmin Forerunner GPS watches for training and racing now have a waterproof version. The Garmin Forerunner 310xt is the latest and greatest in the heart rate monitor tech.  In the past, the Garmin 305 and 405 models were great for running and cycling, but did not give users a safe waterproof option. garmin forerunner 310xt watch

Garmin states that the Forerunner 310xt  is waterproof upto 50 meters (164 ft), way more than enough considering that a typical open water swimmer skims along the top 12-18 inches of water, sometimes diving to a few feet.  Living in Utah I don’t have to worry about salt water or any other harsh water conditions.  So for me this watch gave an option that I couldn’t pass up.

Gps heart rate watches have become very popular, especially with triathlon runners. If you know anything about these types of watches you will know that past models have been lacking in some need features.  The 310 XT has made a huge improvement on the width of the watch face. Garmin reduced the length to 2.2 inches. So it now looks and feels more like a normal watch.  This change also reduced at a quarter of an ounce from the watch weight, and at 2.5 oz the Forerunner 310 packs alot of incredible technology into a small package.

What does it actually do?

The Garmin Forerunner 310xt Watch  tracks just about every part of workout data you’ll need to know.

  • instant feedback
  • keeps a history file
  • up-loadable toGarmin Connect
  •  calories
  •  heart rate
  •  speed
  •  distance
  •  elevation

So pretty much everything.

It is designed to easily set up custom interval workouts right in the watch. A vibrating alarm lets you know when you’ve gone certain distances or drop out of heart rate or speed zones.

This form of  feedback is pretty awesome.  Not only because it keeps you from having to glance at the watch, you can also wear headphones and bump along to your favorite beats.

But enough about that, this is meant to be a short review of the garmin forerunner 310xt watch.

The Garmin Forerunner 310xt Watch is priced at around $399

Or Recommendation:

Great product, if you are looking to get a smaller training watch then the 310xt forerunner by garmin is a good fit. A total cross training device that will help you to track your progression.

Yeti UCI MTB World Championships 2011

Yeti race season concludes on two of the toughest courses on the circuit – Val di Sole Italy and Champery Switzerland. The terrain tested Yeti’s younger rider’s skill. After all, Champery is not only steep and gnarly, it also is World Champs and that changes the complexion of the race dramatically. Sit back, grab a tasty beverage and enjoy..
